Ohio Next of Kin Emergency Contact Program
Through the Emergency Contact Information - Next of Kin (N.O.K.) Program, Ohioans can identify persons they choose to be notified in the event they are involved in a motor vehicle crash leaving them unable to communicate with emergency medical responders. Those with a driver license, temporary permit or state ID have the option of adding emergency contact information to their record.
Legislation to create the Ohio N.O.K. database was initiated by two Ohio mothers, Linda Wuestenberg, and Carmela Wiant. Both, dealing with tragedies who wanted to ensure someone could be notified as soon as possible in the event of an emergency.
The Champaign County Sheriff's Office is using a new communications service known as NIXLE. NIXLE is a community information service that allows subscribed residents to receive text message and/or email alerts regarding break-ins, burglaries, wanted and missing people, as well as safety and community event information.
Alerts can be targeted to certain neighborhoods, regions, or multiple areas within the county.
Residents interested in receiving these alerts can sign up by completing the form to the left, at www.nixle.com, or by texting CHAMPAIGNSO to 888777.
